Ghosts of American Astronauts – Jack Dent

Inspired by The Mekons’ haunting song, this digital collage captures astronauts floating weightlessly over a stark, post-industrial landscape in a Northern dale. The scene is layered with a surreal tension as futuristic tower blocks, seemingly out of place and time, loom in the background, intruding upon the moorland. Storm clouds gather above, mirroring the encroachment of progress on nature. The astronauts, spectral figures against the harsh landscape, embody a sense of dislocation and loss, a meditation on human ambition, the erosion of the past, and the looming unknown.
